Where to sell your bookWhere can your book be sold?

In short: Your printed book can go on sale in the Kitapdoku shop and your e-book on Google Play Books. Every printed book sold in Turkey must carry a banderole, and it needs an ISBN to get into any sales network. For the e-book an EPUB file is enough: Google Play gives a book without an ISBN its own identifier.

What each channel asks for

What each channel needs before your book can go on sale, in short.

  • Kitapdoku shop

Your printed book sits in our shop’s catalogue, among the books readers search for and add to their baskets. For that it needs an ISBN, a barcode and a banderole, and the copies for sale must be printed.

    ISBN and banderole
  • Google Play Books

Your e-book sells on Google Play Books in Turkey, in lira. An EPUB file is enough; no ISBN is required. On each sale Google pays the publisher a share of the list price.

    E-book publishing
  • Selling it yourself

You can also sell at signings, events or through social media. Copies sold by hand need a banderole too: it must be on every printed book that is sold.

    What is a banderole?

Print or e-book?

One does not replace the other; most authors sell both. The differences:

Upfront cost
Printed bookPrinting, for as many copies as you run.
E-bookThe file is made once; nothing is printed.
Stock
Printed bookCopies are printed before they are sold.
E-bookNo stock; every sale is a download.
ISBN
Printed bookNeeded to get into sales networks.
E-bookNot required on Google Play; advisable for other stores.
Banderole
Printed bookRequired on every copy sold.
E-bookNone; banderoles are for printed copies.
Earnings per sale
Printed bookThe price less the unit cost and any channel share.
E-bookGoogle pays the publisher 70% of the list price, net of tax.
